Romberg Remembered

ROMBERG REMEMBERED, a "Concert Show", depicts the career and presents the songs of the great Sigmund Romberg. This highly successful presentation has brought standing ovations throughout the nation.

The music is romantic and a bit naïve, but it brings back wonderful memories of a time when beautiful melody, fine lyrics, and great singing without amplification were highly appreciated. Doreen McFarlane, soprano, John Horton Murray, tenor, and Michael McFarlane, baritone, with David Farrington at the piano, bring to life Romberg's glorious melodies. Each of the highly skilled singers is a distinguished soloist with a background rich in opera, symphony, concert, and musical theater. Romberg Remembered is sung, staged, scripted, choreographed, and costumed. Michael McFarlane plays the part of Romberg. Doreen and John fill out the cast, playing various parts.

Songs and scenes are featured from well known shows such as Student Prince, Blossom Time, Desert Song, Maytime, New Moon, Up In Central Park, and the motion pictures. Romberg collaborated with the greatest lyricists of his day, including Oscar Hammerstein II, Dorothy Donnelly, Otto Harbach, Al Jolson, and Dorothy Fields.

Romberg died in New York City in 1951. As we look back, we see that Romberg was old and new, funny and romantic. He knew how to move an audience and appealed to them in so many ways. When choosing a female singer for his shows, one of his famous comments was this: "I know a good voice when I see one." And, if you look at his movies, you'll see that he did!
