BIOGRAPHY

Jack Perkins is best known as a television journalist for 40 years, first for NBC News and more recently as a host of Biography for A&E television network. Jack Perkins began his association with A&E in 1990. He has served as host and narrator for many of the Network's most acclaimed programs, including A&E Premieres, A&E Revue, and Time Machine with Jack Perkins. In May 1994, Mr. Perkins joined as host of A&E's flagship series, Biography.

For 25 years, Mr. Perkins served as correspondent, commentator and anchorman at NBC News. Named "the most literate network correspondent" by the Associated Press, Mr. Perkins was seen on NBC Nightly News, The Huntley-Brinkley Report, and The Today Show, where he appeared occasionally as host. His essays were heard regularly on NBC Radio. Nominated for an Emmy Award for his coverage of the 1972 Winter Olympics in Japan, Mr. Perkins has covered stories as diverse as the elections in South Vietnam, an exclusive on-camera interview with assassin Sirhan Sirhan, and the youth culture of the '70s.

Mr. Perkins once explained why he finds his work on A&E so appealing. "I spent a career in news," he said. "I would hope we'd all want more than `news of the day.' We ought to care about our own history, and about the people who shaped it."
